POWERING ON THE MACHINE
- Battery . Frequently the battery will be depleted if the machine has been left unplugged. Plug the machine in first if this is the case.
- Power Button Hit the power button on the right side as you are facing the machine. In the image below it is the small black button in the middle of the image.

CHANGING DEPTH

Depth can be changed by dragging the cursor along the virtual depth guage on the right side of the screen. Along with gain, depth is one of the main controls we need to refine ultrasound images. Usually, you would want the finding of interest (vein, abscess, heart, etc…) to be centered on the screen. You would prefer not to have a lot of extraneous imaging (soft tissue, bone, the exam table) beyond your object of interest.
CHANGING GAIN

Similar to Depth, Gain can be changed by dragging the cursor along the virtual guage on the right side of the screen. Gain should be optimized so the images on screen have dark blacks and bright whites and all of the values in between. If you have “overgained” the screen will overall look very white with few dark colors or black areas. If you are “undergained” your image will look too dark and you will be squinting at the screen.
CHANGING PROBES
To change probes, simply hit the “Probe” virtual button on the left side of the screen. This will bring up a screen on which you can select the probe and the presets for the study you intend to do (i.e. large curvilinear probe – FAST exam preset)
